Ken and Hayley | 10.7.18 | Poulsbo, WA.

So, y’all, I LOVE the Pacific Northwest. The weather, the trees, the landscape, the people, oh my! And yes, I said “the Weather”….why? because that area of the country actually has something besides Hot, HOT, and HOTTER!

This obsession only got worse after I visited Seattle in 2016. Jim and I immersed ourselves in all these FANTASTIC neighborhoods, Capitol Hill, Queen Anne, Belltown, Union….Had delicious meals at Pike Market (the wait in line is TOTALLY worth it at Piroshky Piroshky ), Wild Ginger, Stateside, and Bongos. We even went across the sound to explore Bainbridge Island!

Naturally, I immediately dove into how I could have the opportunity to document some weddings in the area…and I stumbled across this sweet little cabin, sitting on the side of the Agave Pass, in this teeny town called Poulsbo….the Kiana Lodge.

I absolutely fell in love with the beautiful, green landscape surrounded by GIANT trees and absolutely covered in colorful flowers. This little wooden cabin was made of all of my dream weddings.

So when an old college buddy, Ken, contacted me saying he had gotten engaged, he was getting married in the Seattle area, and they were considering me to be their photographer…I was so excited, Jim and I made a champagne and frozen pizza run to HEB.

As the details of Ken and Hayley’s Wedding came to me, I got more and more excited. Their details were going to be so simple and beautiful; flowers and lots of natural elements, and the beauty of the State of Washington were all going to be included in their special day.

The couple was most excited about their super close group of friends and family were coming in from around the country to celebrate with them. Their colors, her gown, her flowers…their casual, romantic wedding was coming together..

The Coolest Detail of all: their spectacular venue…THE KIANA LODGE!!!!

Yes, that turned into another HEB run. :-) And maybe more than one bottle of champagne. ;-)

Fast Forward to October and to my stomach doing somersaults over the view I had from my AirBNB in Queen Anne, Glaziers Camera Store, and Driving onto a Ferry Boat for the first time! EEK! Driving across Bainbridge Island and over the bridge to Sandy Hook Road and I was there…..

…and there were SEALS!

Ken and Hayley’s wedding day flowed so easily and beautifully it was unreal. There was only one minor hurdle….and that was whether to have their ceremony on the lawn or inside the gorgeous atrium. Either way, Ken and Hayley were wanting to do their first look and get all their portraits finished so they could spend more time engaging with their family and friends.

Group shots, not always my favorite part of the day….but this group was silly and funny and knew exactly how to make the bride and groom laugh. Hayley couldn’t stop giggling while getting pics with her bridesmaids…..and Ken had a blast getting piggy backed and climbing on logs with his groomsmen.

When the couple took the spot light, all the sound in the world seemed to quiet. We got this amazing opportunity to hear the water lap on the shore, the wind through the GIANT trees, and the sprinkle of a PNW day. Hayley absolutely radiated, while Ken grinned ear to ear….both of them excited for their special day.

Just the perfect way segue into the ceremony.

The sweet ceremony in the atrium went off without a hitch- with both the bride and groom delivering some emotional vows and the officiant telling cute stories making everyones noses wrinkle with giggles….and the Best Man pulled many many gold rings out of his pocket…:-D

After cutting into their cake, the bride and groom shared their first dance as man and wife. Soon enough, more people got in on the party and before it was too long everyone was out by the campfire trading stories of the couple from school, working with the US Fish and Wildlife Service, their passion of science and love of corgis.

The night went on as if it would never end—even as the couple were whisked away in a Tesla.

I’m SO grateful to Ken and Hayley for having me document their wedding. They were so insanely happy through the whole weekend and had such amazing friends and family. I’m SO thrilled to have been given this opportunity to get outside my norm and surrounded by all the natural beauty the PNW has to offer.

Until Next time!
